Recruiting singers for newchoir’s June 2nd concert at Koerner Hall‏

After singing with the Jubilee Alumni Choir at Massey Hall last month and hearing all those great voices, it occurred to me that some of my fellow alumni might be interested in a further opportunity to do some singing but of a different  genre and in another great venue.

My choir, newchoir, will be performing at Koerner Hall on Thursday, June 2nd.  Besides our regular band, we will have as guests Canada’s Queen of R&B, singer Jully Black, and saxophonist Gene Hardy leading a terrific horn section.  We will be singing some classic rock from The Guess Who, Roxy Music, Supertramp and Peter Gabriel, some classic R&B from Earth Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder and Amy Winehouse and some other great tunes.

Jordan De Souza couldn’t squeeze directing newchoir for this concert into his busy calendar but we will have Dr. Robin Williams directing us.  Robin may be familiar to you from an SMCS email announcement to the SMCS Community this past July.  Robin obtained his doctorate from the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music in Rome and was responsible for the research that made the online repository of Msgr. Ronan’s music manuscripts a reality.  Yes, it’s a bit of a stretch from Msgr. Ronan to Huey Lewis and the News, U2 etc., but choral singing is choral singing and, like Jordan, Robin won’t disappoint!

We will be rehearsing for this concert on Monday evenings starting on February 1st and continuing up to June 2nd, with a few extra practices as we get closer to the concert date.  The Monday evening rehearsals will be at St. Simon’s Anglican Church on Bloor Street between Sherbourne and Parliament.  More information about newchoir is available on our website www.newchoir.ca.

It would be great to have a few fellow alumni join me for this concert and I would really appreciate it if you would pass this email on to at least those alumni who sang in the Jubilee Choir last month.  Anyone interested could contact me by email at rcoles@tcecapital.com or Robin Williams by email at robinfabianwilliams@gmail.com.
